When does my pet need its eyes checked?

  • He shows signs of acute eye pain (eye closed, rubbling the eye, weeping eye).
  • Signs of diffuse pain, as in glaucoma, including lethargy, exercise intolerance and depression.
  • Changes in the appearance of the eye, opacity, redness, swelling, dilation.
  • Eye discharge, in particular an excessive quantity of clear tears or any other yellow or green discharge.
  • Change in vision, hesitation when going down stairs, looking for the ball, bumping into objects, missing pavements, cautious behaviour in dim light.

Any of the above that occurs suddenly seems serious, or associated with a known trauma to the eye may be an emergency...
