Surgery in veterinary ophthalmology is regularly useful to correct eyelid defects (entropion, ectropion, tumour, poorly implanted eyelashes or hairs, etc.), or of the nictitaning membrane also known as the third eyelid, at the medial angle of the eye (dislocation of the lacrimal gland, eversion of the cartilage, tumours, etc.).
The conjunctiva may also benefit, following certain viral infections in cats (symblepharon following herpes) or in the face of trauma (foreign bodies, claw marks, etc.) or tumours.
The cornea is often affected by surgery for both superficial and deep ulcers, but also for trauma or, rarely, tumours; grafts and biomaterials are often life-saving. The iris may also be affected by post-inflammatory and/or post-traumatic adhesions or certain tumours.
Finally, lens surgery for instability and cataracts is also very useful and gives good results when indicated.
Glaucoma is also concerned by surgery and, depending on the stage and condition of the vision, it can be very useful for medium- to long-term control. Laser, Cryogenics, shunt, prosthesis or injection are solutions we can offer.
