Nutrition growth plan

There are situations where regular monitoring is advisable to optimise the effectiveness of a feed ration and detect malnutrition as early as possible. The programmes below are examples of optimal monitoring.

Nutrition for the reproductive female

Ideally, you should have a nutrition consultation 1 month before breeding.

Female reproductive programme:

  • Reproduction consultation
  • Follow-up consultation at 5 weeks' gestation
  • Follow-up consultation after parturition
  • Follow-up consultation at 3/4 weeks of lactation
  • Follow-up consultation when the litter is weaned (7 to 8 weeks of lactation)

Growth

Bone growth is faster and shorter than overall growth. Broadly speaking, by the time an animal reaches puberty, it has almost reached adult size, and its energy requirements change. Muscle growth is delayed compared to bone growth. But it is the muscles that hold the skeleton together. It is therefore during bone growth that the osteoarticular risks are greatest: from the moment of adoption and for a few months afterwards. The aim is to achieve slow, harmonious growth, with the puppy or kitten having an optimum body condition score.

Here are the individualised nutrition programmes for growth:

Cat and small dog programme

(adult size around 6 months old)

  • Initial 45-minute consultation: between 2 and 3 months old
  • Follow-up consultations: every 4 weeks for 6 months

If the animal is sterilised:

  • Sterilisation follow-up consultation
  • Follow-up consultations at 1, 3 and 6 months after sterilisation.
  • If sterilisation takes place before the age of 6 months, the two reasons will be combined in the follow-up consultations.

Medium dog programme

(adult size around 8 months old)

  • Initial 45-minute consultation: between 2 and 3 months old
  • Follow-up consultation every 4 weeks for 6 months
  • Follow-up consultations at 8 months of age

If sterilised:

  • Sterilisation follow-up consultation
  • Follow-up consultations at 1, 3 and 6 months after sterilisation.
  • If sterilisation takes place before the age of 8 months, the two reasons will be combined in the follow-up consultations.

Large dog programme

(adult size around 1 year old)

  • Initial 45-minute consultation: between 2 and 3 months old
  • Follow-up consultation every 4 weeks for 6 months
  • Follow-up consultations at 8 and 12 months of age

If sterilised:

  • Sterilisation follow-up consultation
  • Follow-up consultations at 1, 3 and 6 months after sterilisation.
  • If sterilisation occurs before 12 months, the follow-up consultations combine growth and sterilisation.

Weight loss

Being overweight or obese negatively affects human and animal health. However, losing weight can be challenging. Therefore, having a weight loss plan that involves consistent support and time dedication is essential.

This plan involves:

  • - an initial consultation,
  • - followed by regular follow
  • -up consultations every four weeks until the desired weight loss speed is achieved (approximately 1% of one's weight per week). - Once that is completed, it is recommended to have follow-up consultations every three months until the optimal body weight is reached.

Sport, working and utility dog

Dogs participating in sports, working, or assisting people with disabilities may sometimes have unique needs, at least occasionally. Depending on the activity, some functions may need additional help for stamina and resting periods.

A tailored nutrition plan can be created to suit their specific activity.
