Veterinary medicine

The field of veterinary preventive medicine focuses on preventing and detecting diseases in animals rather than treating them once they occur.

Are you crossing borders with your pet (dog or cat)?

MADELEINE VET offers personalised assistance for your pet's international travel. Veterinary Doctor Dominique THERON possesses all the required sanitary approvals.
Please be aware that there are strict regulations for travelling with pets. Obtaining all the necessary certificates before departure may take a few days. However, in more complicated scenarios, it could take several months to gather all the required documents, some of which have specific deadlines that must be met.
If you're travelling with your pet in the European Union, Dr Théron can provide the required health certificates. Additionally, he can get you a European Pet Passport, which streamlines the administrative process for frequent travel.
When travelling outside the European Union, it is often necessary to obtain country-specific health certificates. With his expertise, Dr Théron can guide and assist you efficiently through the complex process of getting these certificates. MADELEINE VET frequently accompanies owners to countries such as Japan, China, the USA, Taiwan, Norway, Russia, Saint Martin, England, Ireland, Dubail, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Emirates, Canada, Argentina, and Australia, each with its unique legislation and health protocols.

To travel serenely with your pet, contact us well before your trip so we can help you through the administrative maze.

For information on rabies legislation and specific travel requirements for each country, visit the government and AniVetVoyage websites. It is also recommended to confirm with the transport company or embassy of the country you plan to stay with your pet.

Consultations for paediatric care and puberty-related topics

Our consultations are designed to create personalised vaccination plans based on your pet's future lifestyle. We also assess their nutritional needs for optimal growth and can discuss sterilisation options if desired.

Consultation for senior pets

When your companion turns 7, they may be considered a "senior" and could experience health problems related to ageing, such as conditions with their heart, kidneys and joints. It is essential to schedule a clinical examination and other tests to detect potential problems early on. With a proper plan, we can help manage these conditions and provide your companion with the best quality of life for as long as possible.

Internal medicine

Internal medicine

In internal medicine, all medical disciplines intersect, including cardiology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, orthopaedics, dermatology, gynaecology, paediatrics, and geriatrics. This approach takes into account the entirety of an animal's health issues, considering their symptoms and clinical examination. Additional tests, such as blood pressure, ultrasound, and blood tests, may be performed to help with diagnosis.

Once a diagnosis is made, whether medical or surgical, the best treatment plan for your animal can be determined through general medical practice.

Anaesthesia
and surgery

Surgery and anaesthesia often go together. However, anaesthesia may also be necessary for non-surgical procedures where an animal must remain still, such as during x-rays, MRIs, CT scans, OCTs, ERGs, or other painful exams or treatments.

Anaesthesia

During surgery, anaesthesia is administered to your pet to suppress their consciousness and sensitivity temporarily. This enables them to remain still and motionless throughout the procedure.

General surgery

Surgery can either be a convenient procedure for sterilisation or a necessary treatment method for your animal's medical conditions, such as malformations, wounds, trauma, tumours, and others. The process is performed under anaesthesia and is usually done on an outpatient basis.
Consult with your veterinarian to discuss the various treatment options available, and rest assured that your decision will always be respected at Madeleine Vet.

Day-care hospitalisation

If your pet requires special care or surgery, we may need to hospitalise them for a full or half day. Our facility is equipped with comfortable cages that ensure your pet's safety and allow for proper surveillance during their stay.
