{"id":1117,"date":"2023-05-05T16:57:46","date_gmt":"2023-05-05T14:57:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/madeleinevet.fr\/non-classifiee\/ocular-ultrasound\/"},"modified":"2024-05-13T18:23:48","modified_gmt":"2024-05-13T16:23:48","slug":"ocular-ultrasound","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/madeleinevet.fr\/en\/ophtalmology\/ocular-ultrasound\/","title":{"rendered":"Ocular ultrasound"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Eye Ultrasound: What is it for?<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>An eye ultrasound is a diagnostic procedure that uses ultrasound technology to examine the eyeball and orbit,&nbsp; even if&nbsp; there is a loss of transparency of the media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This helps to visualise the iris, crystalline lens, retina, and other parts of the eye, especially in cases where there is a loss of transparency due to conditions such as cataracts, vitreous bleeding, retinal detachment, or glaucoma. Additionally, ultrasound can be used to diagnose and monitor ocular tumours. Ultrasound also allows the diagnosis and monitoring of ocular tumours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The oculomotor muscles, optic nerve, and retro-ocular orbit can be visualised in orbital exploration. However, additional imaging such as CT or MRI may be necessary if there are orbital pathologies such as trauma or tumours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/madeleinevet.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/madeleine-vet-echographie-oculaire-cabinet-veterinaire-paris.jpg\" alt=\"madeleine-vet-echographie-oculaire-cabinet-veterinaire-paris\" class=\"wp-image-251\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Here's what you should know and do before your ultrasound exam:<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There is no need to dilate your pet\u2019s pupils for this exam, and it won't cause you any pain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Ultrasound Exam Workflow:<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>At the start of the exam, anaesthetic eye drops are usually instilled to help prevent discomfort and uncontrolled blinking. Light sedation may be necessary to help your pet to be more relaxed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A special ultrasound probe will contact the eyelids or eyeballs during the exam.
